“…This is because the failure may be driven by many factors that are external to the research question under investigation: differences in the population and/or language studied, the natural variability in the dependent variable, lab settings, equipment, and protocols can come together to lead to very different outcomes. “…There are some concerns that sustained passive consumption of shortform videos may impact attention span (e.g., Siehoff, 2023); future passive SMU research could explore if these concerns are valid. For example, short-form videos may worsen viewers' mood by evoking a sense of fatigue due to nonverbal or informational overload (Bailenson, 2021;Isarida et al, 2020). Why and how exactly the message modality of shortform videos could impact well-being during or after passive SMU is an intriguing question and remains an important area for future research.…”

“…We selected video contexts consisting of moving pictures with sound based on the protocol of Smith and Manzano (2010). The video context functions not only as local environmental context similar to other computer contexts, such as background colour and background pictures, but also as global environmental context, similar to place context (Isarida et al, 2020; Smith and Manzano, 2010). The present study investigated whether video contexts would facilitate paired-associate learning in a manner similar to that found for place contexts.…”
