The aspects of cutting tool life and the quality of machined workpiece surfaces are pivotal considerations within field of machining processes. While a thorough review of the existing literature has revealed a multitude of investigations about the milling of steels frequently employed in cold work tool manufacturing, there is a conspicuous lack of experimental studies that have effectively determined the optimal values for cutting speed and feed. This determination is imperative to ensure the concurrent minimization of surface roughness and maximization of the tool life. Hence, the primary objective of this research endeavor is to discern the most finely tuned parameters conducive to milling AISI D2 steel with a milling cutter equipped with GC1130 coated inserts to optimize the interdependent variables. The analytical process demanded the development of multiple regression models, the validity of which was assess through an examination of residual graphs. Also, an analysis of variance was conduct, shedding light on their individual and collective impacts. Besides, the relationship between the cutting parameters and the resultant output factors was meticulously examine through the employment of response surface plots. The quest for a multi-faceted optimization solution, the desirability technique was harness. In summary, the comprehensive analysis conducted in this study substantiates the assertion that a judiciously selected combination of low cutting speed and high feed rate has a pronounced positive impact on the specified output variables. This collective enhancement attains an admirable level of desirability, reflecting both acceptable and excellent outcomes across the myriad facets of the milling operation.

The increased service life of cutting tools used in material removal processes results in significant savings in terms of production time and costs. Machining downtimes, especially those related to tool changes, represent a significant percentage of machine downtimes, which reduces efficiency. A proposed methodology is presented for the analysis of the behavior of the cutting tool through the application of the ISO standard, for which roughness and wear were determined and micrographs were used as indicators for the verification of the condition of the tool. The effectiveness of the proposed methodology that can be used in manufacturing processes to avoid failures in the workpiece due to improper use of the cutting tool was tested.

In a company, income must exceed expenses for the business to be profitable. The choices a company makes about its energy sourcing and consumption can profoundly influence its cost of production. The purpose of this paper is to examine the energy consumption of the cutting tool of a lathe using a numerical tool CNC. This study was designed to examine the relationship between speed of cutting and the spectral modes of the power spectral density. This work shows the impact of the current for different cutting speeds, the results of this study indicate that the power spectral density of the current of cutting, may be more than enough to determinate the energy consumption of the manufacturing process. The main contribution of this paper is the experimental validation of the attenuation of higher order modes of the electrical current at metal cutting process. These results can be used in the design and tuning of the speed control of the cutting tool.
