Vibro-cast periclase refractories of a grainy structure and some of their properties

Abstract: Magnesial refractories whose basic mineral component is periclase occupy a dominating position among the main refractories [I, 2]. The magnesial products are fired or unfired and are produced in the form of molded refractories and concretes [3][4][5]. It is well known that periclase refractories have excellent refractoriness, slag-and metal-resistance, but a low thermal-shock resistance as a result of the s%gniflcant thermal-expansion of MgO. However, under special conditions [20], it is possible to obtain ad… Show more

“…If we ignore the correction for the reduction in porosity due to hydration, then the porosity of the matrix in the concrete in the original (before service) condition equals 36-52%, which is at least double the porosity of the matrix in the concretes based on VKVS of acid or acid-amphoteric composition [5]. If we compare these factors with the porosity of the bond based on VKVS of the amorphous or basic composition [5,8] then they prove to be completely identical.…”

“…During this process, the refractory mixture is shrinking accordingly. [1] In case, that mould is assembly form difficulty shapes parts, during drying process are arisen of cracks on bricks surface. From this reason is need to make these mould parts from flexible material, which is eliminated the pressure arisen during drying and hardening process.…”
