Vibrational Spectra of Mono‐ and Polymethylene Diphosphonic Acids

Abstract: The Raman and Infrared spectra of Hz03P-(CH2).-PO~Hz, n being I , 2, 3, 4 and 6 have been recorded. The vibrational assignments of P 0 3 H 2 were studied, together with their behaviour in different aggregational states. Attention was given to the v(P-C) assignment. Both a symmetric and an asymmetric one arise when the two phosphorus atoms are attached to the same carbon, while in the higher homologues they are fairly close to one another, giving a single band.

“…Raman spectroscopy has successfully been used for characterization of bone [3], HA (as a model of bone) [4], [17] and bisphosphonates (as active agents in bone disease treatment) [18], [19], [20], [21], [22], [23], [24]. Thus far, only one attempted Raman spectroscopic study on the interaction between a BP and bone or HA was found in the literature [25].…”

“…The peaks around 748 cm À 1 correspond to the PÀ C vibrations of the propylene bridge and the peaks at 1034 cm À 1 and 1190 cm À 1 are from the PÀ O vibrations of the TEPD linker. [48,49] The intensity ratio of PÀ C/PÀ O vibrations becomes more prominent as the HCl/Ti ratio increases from 1 to 3 possibly due to the changes in the phosphorus environment that might be binding differently to the TiO 2 surface. The TiÀ O vibrations of the TiO 2 NPs result in peaks at 150 cm À 1 (E g1 ), 413 cm À 1 (B 1g ), 510 cm À 1 (A 1g /B 1g ), and 640 cm À 1 (E g1 ) confirming the presence of anatase phase TiO 2 .…”

“…Raman spectroscopy of the dried samples of TiO 2 NPs formed in the presence of TEPD linker was performed to observe the Ti−O vibrations and organophosphorus vibrations as shown in Figure 2. The peaks around 748 cm −1 correspond to the P−C vibrations of the propylene bridge and the peaks at 1034 cm −1 and 1190 cm −1 are from the P−O vibrations of the TEPD linker [48,49] . The intensity ratio of P−C/P−O vibrations becomes more prominent as the HCl/Ti ratio increases from 1 to 3 possibly due to the changes in the phosphorus environment that might be binding differently to the TiO 2 surface.…”

“…The spectrum of TPN1-18 displays a shoulder at 800–680 cm −1 which originates from the P-O-P group [30,51]. At 835–767 cm −1 , TPN3-20 reveals the absorptions for the P-C-P [52,53]. It is found that methylene diphosphonic acid gives distinct vibrational signals in this region, which does not appear in the spectra of higher homologues.…”
