Vibration Characteristics of Compression Ignition Engines Fueled with Blended Petro-Diesel and Fischer-Tropsch Diesel Fuel from Coal Fuels

Abstract: Fischer-Tropsch diesel fuel synthesized from coal (CFT) is an alternative fuel that gives excellent emission performance in compression ignition (CI) engines. In order to study the vibration characteristics, which are important for determining the applicability of the fuel, CFT-diesel blends were tested on a CI engine to acquire vibration signals from the engine head and block. Based on the FFT and continuous wavelet transformation (CWT) analysis, the influence of CFT on the vibration was studied. The results … Show more

“…In another paper [33], the compounds of sunflower and canola oils were explored. Engines powered by standard fuel and mixtures of standard fuel and fuel obtained from coal according to Fisher-Tropsch technology are tested in [34]. This paper demonstrates the full operational suitability of the tested blends.…”

“…Despite the green revolution in automotive industry and more and more often application of alternative driving systems, the Diesel engine is still widely used in transportation, industry, agriculture and construction, owing to their high efficiency, reliability and durability [46]. The reason of application of the Diesel engine car in the experiment are relatively high amplitudes of vibrations generated by engine comparing to the gasoline engine [47] and possibility to use the terrain vehicle in off-road having additional natural external source of mechanical vibrations.…”

“…After an Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) test, aimed at highlighting the parameters of influence on the above-indicated variable (response), the subsequent application of the Response Surface Methodology (RSM) allowed the calculation of the regression function coefficients that describe the effects of the statistically-significant independent variables on the response [62] ( Figure 2). It is worth mentioning that the emissions of NOx and CO are supplied by the measurement equipment in terms of ppm on a volume basis [12,24,46,[57][58][59][60]. The data elaboration and the following RSM have been carried out using the data with this measurement unit rather than g (kW h) −1 , which is a quantity that can supply an indication of the emissions in compliance also with the indications of the international norms on pollutants (EURO, TIER).…”
