Abstract: An. darlingi populations in the two reserves showed exophilic behavior and intense nocturnal activity. The occurrence of immature forms was little frequent and larval density was low. Vector behavioral characteristics were not favorable for the usual vector control activities.

“…However, only a few A. darlingi individuals infected with Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium falciparum , according to enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) tests 49 are needed to maintain the malaria circulating in a population. 2 Studied parameters consisted of their breeding sites, samples distribution, incidence, feeding preferences, hour of maximum activity of adult samples seasonality, resting places, and the presence of Plasmodium species.…”

“…The behavior of the vector species influences the local epidemiological pattern, and the same populations of An. darlingi may show behavioral variation in response to environmental change in addition to seasonal fluctuation, thus increasing the complexity of malaria transmission dynamics (Charlwood 1996, Voorham 2002, Santos et al 2009). Even with low An.…”

“…Factors contributing to the occurrence of malaria in the State of Rondônia include environmental changes caused by human activities that favor the proliferation of Anopheles darling, malaria's main vector [20,21]. Rodrigues et al [14] studied the spatial distribution of malaria in Brazil between 1994 and 2005 and observed two significant time points in the evolution of the number of cases: the first from 1994 to 2000, in which a drastic reduction of 59.5% was observed; and the second from 2001 to 2005, in which an increase of 105.7% was observed.…”
