Of the 126 teachers who responded to the POI on request, the 10 teachers who scored highest and the 10 teachers who scored lowest on the inner-directed scale of the POI were selected so that comparisons between the two groups could be made in terms of classroom verbal behaviors (Zimmerman, 1971).
