Vegetative propagation and application of clonal forestry in Brazilian native tree species

Abstract: Understanding the mechanisms involved in tree species maturation, related mainly to ontogenetic age effects, has contributed significantly to the vegetative propagation process of Brazilian native tree species, with consequent application of clonal forestry. A number of methodologies has been developed to rescue and vegetatively propagate these species for silvicultural and environmental restoration purposes. However, the types and purposes of propagation, as well as the choice of suitable processes and propag… Show more

“…Therefore, rooting competence decreases with the increase in the diameter of single-budded mate cuttings. These results are in agreement with the literature, because the formation of adventitious roots is known to be related to the diameter of the vegetative propagulein woody species (Fachinello et al, 1995;Stuepp et al, 2018).…”

“…Mate presents low multiplication rate due to its recalcitrant behavior of cuttings rooting (Bitencourt, Zuffellato-Ribas, Wendling, & Koehler, 2009), which has restricted the mass production of plantlets of these species. The development of adventitious roots is a complex process which may be affected by multiple factors, including the stock plant (Geiss, Gutierrez, & Bellini, 2009;Bisognin, Lencina, Luz, Fleig, & Gazzana, 2018), collection time of vegetative propagules (Pimentel et al, 2019), phytohormones (Bisognin et al, 2018), and cutting diameter (Stuepp, Wendling, Xavier, & Zuffellato-Ribas, 2018).…”

“…Juvenile propagules can be obtained from epicormic shoots, which are stimulated by techniques such as stem coppicing, girdling and semi-girdling, in addition to the use of detached live branches (Stuepp et al 2018). The latter technique has shown good results for epicormic-shoot ACTA AMAZONICA induction in arboreal species, causing less damage to the mother plant and, in some cases, allowing better vegetative propagation (Stuepp et al 2014).…”

“…O processo de formação radicial envolve diversos fatores como condições fisiológicas das plantas matrizes, juvenilidade dos propágulos, balanço hormonal, época de coleta, além da aplicação de reguladores vegetais (Zhang et al 2016). Sabe-se que o material vegetal que contém características juvenis possui maior capacidade de enraizamento que materiais adultos, por apresentar condições fisiológicas, como o balanço hormonal, que favorecem o enraizamento (Hartmann et al 2011;Stuepp et al 2018).…”
