The large-scale development of the tourism industry has an impact on environmental destruction. However, The Tengger tribe in Ngadisari village can improve their economy through tourism activities while protecting the environment and maintaining its sustainability. This study aims to examine the Tengger traditions in conserving the environment. This study was designed qualitatively using an interview method and a literature review. The results of the study show that the involvement of the Tengger Tribe of Ngadisari Village in environmental conservation is based on their belief that a good life is a harmonious life among humans, nature, and God. The form of environmental awareness is evident in the management of eco-friendly farming systems and the ability of the local community to cultivate their land. This environmental awareness is obtained informally through the transmission of values in the traditional ritual activities of Yadnya Kasada.. Masifnya pengembangan industri pariwisata berpengaruh terhadap kerusakan lingkungan. Namun, Suku Tengger yang berada di Desa Ngadisari mampu meningkatkan perekonomian melalui kegiatan pariwisata dan tetap dapat melindungi lingkungannya agar tetap lestari. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menelaah tradisi Suku Tengger dalam konservasi lingkungan. Studi ini dirancang secara kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode wawancara dan kajian kepustakaan. Hasil studi menunjukkan keterlibatan Suku Tengger Desa Ngadisari dalam konservasi lingkungan didasari oleh pemahaman bahwa kehidupan yang baik adalah kehidupan yang harmoni antara manusia, alam dan Tuhan. Bentuk kesadaran lingkungan ditunjukkan dalam pengelolaan sistem pertanian yang ramah lingkungan dan kesanggupan masyarakat lokal mengelola secara mandiri lahan yang dimiliki. Kesadaran lingkungan ini diperoleh secara non formal melalui pewarisan nilai dalam kegiatan upacara adat Yadnya Kasada.

Forest management is a way to keep the forest well-preserved. Forest management can mitigate the impacts of climate change. It will affect the balance of the environment such as the balance in the hydrological or water systems aspect. Infiltration is one of the water system factors in hydrology. This research aims to determine the value and classification of the infiltration rate. This research was conducted using a descriptive exploratory method to determine the infiltration rate of each land cover plant. This research is in Alas Bromo, Karanganyar, Central Java which has Alfisol soil types with six land uses: seasonal mixed, annual mixed, mahogany, pine, pine-mahogany, and renewal. Different types of land cover and plant characteristics affect the soil condition and the ability to absorb water into the soil. The calculation of the infiltration rate uses the Philip method. According to the classification of the infiltration rate in Alas Bromo, four classes were obtained including: moderately rapid 9.15 cm.h-1 (Mahogany), moderate 3.72, and 2.77 cm.h-1 (Pine and Pine-Mahogany), moderately slow 0.87 cm.h-1 (annual mixed), slow 0.28 and 0.265 cm.h-1 (seasonal mixed and renewal). Therefore, the presence of land-cover plants increases the infiltration rate.

The Composition of Undergrowth Vegetation in Forest Area with the Special Purpose of Gunung Bromo, Karangayar, Central Java, Indonesia

Data on the biodiversity is essential to support the Forest Area with the Special Purpose (KHDTK) of Gunung Bromo as an educational forest and training center. This study aimed to obtain basic information on undergrowth vegetation composition under pine stands. Furthermore, the important value index (IVI), species diversity index (H’), species richness index (R), and evenness index (E) were determined. The data was systematically obtained by marking 35 plots of 2 m × 2 m. The distance between plots was 100 m. The results showed that the undergrowth vegetation consisted of 39 species from 26 families. The habitus of undergrowth vegetation was herb (15 species), shrub (14 species), liana (3 species), fern (6 species), and palm (1 species). Eragrostis tenerum was the dominant species with an IVI of 58.84%). Centrosema pubescens showed an IVI of 18.38%, while the other species showed less than 10%. Furthermore, H’ was classified as moderate (2.35), R was classified as moderate (4.69), and E was classified as uneven (0.64). This condition indicated that the undergrowth species that grew in KHDTK of Gunung Bromo was limited and uneven. It was considered due to inhibiting factors such as allelopathy in pine leaf litter and low light intensity. Undergrowth species that grow in KHDTK of Gunung Bromo showed several potential utilizations, such as medicinal plants (30 species), ornamental plants (9 species), food sources (5 species), forage (4 species), culture and crafts (4 species), and conservation (3 species).
