Vegetation Analysis and Environmental Relationships of Riverain Plants in the Aswan Reservoir, Egypt

Abstract: The present study analyses plant diversity and evaluates the relationship between edaphic variables and the distribution and grouping of plant species in the Aswan Reservoir area, South Egypt. The dominant families were Fabaceae, Poaceae, and Asteraceae, forming 38.82% of the total flora recorded. The main bulk of the flora recorded (50.59%) belonged to the cosmopolitan, neotropical, pantropical, and palaeotropical chorotypes. A TWINSPAN analysis produced 10 vegetation clusters. Inundation levels showed a high… Show more

“…This method of categorization is based on the dominant and codominant plant species, soil feature as well as the various climate types. This application is reliable and supports the data that has been observed and obtained (Abbas, et al, 2021). Additionally, TWINSAPAN classification has a clear-cut pattern of segregation on the ordination diagrams.…”

“…The high percentage of therophytes can be explained by the aridity of the region and habitat distubance along with Mediterranean climate, topographic variation, and biotic interaction all seem to have an impact on the prominent therophytes (Al Shaye et al, et al, 2013). In meantime, the short lifespan also enables them to withstand the harsh climate (Abbas, et al, 2021). In contrast, the occurrence of chamaephytes and hemicryptophytes in significant numbers compared to the rest life forms.…”

“…where S is the number of species in the quadrat; N is the total number of individuals of all species in the quadrat; P i = N i /N 0 , N i is the number of species i; and N 0 is the total number of all species. The floristic data matrix was then classified into vegetation clusters by two-way indicator species analysis (TWINSPAN) using the default settings of the computer software PC-ORD (version 5) [1].…”

“…The riparian ecosystem is an important primary producer in a river ecosystem as ecotones between terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems [1]. The riparian ecosystem includes landscapes above high watermarks, consisting of channels between low-and high-water levels where vegetation may be affected by rising water levels or flooding, and by the capacity of the soil to retain water [2].…”

“…The interaction between vegetation and environmental gradients is crucial. Studying of plant groups, considering factors like topography, soil, and status provides insights into the intricate relationships in shaping ecological communities Abbas et al 9 . Comprehensive analysis at both species and major plant group levels is essential for understanding the dynamic interplay between flora and their surroundings Ullah et al 10 .…”
