Vascular Tumors

Abstract: Vascular anomalies are divided into two main groups: tumors and malformations. Vascular tumors are a large and complex group of lesions, especially for clinicians with none or little experience in this field. In the past, these lesions caused a great deal of confusion because many appear analogous to the naked eye. Thankfully, recent advances in diagnostic techniques have helped the medical community to enhance our comprehension, accurately label, diagnose, and treat these lesions. In this article, we will rev… Show more

“…In most cases, the proliferative phase is complete by 3 to 5 months of life, as the lesion exhausts its blood supply. 2 The quiescent phase follows from 9 to 12 months of age. Involution begins as the overlying skin becomes dull red or gray, and the deep components of the lesion begin to shrink (►Fig.…”

“…Corticosteroids, interferon, and vincristine are options for treatment, but their use must be closely monitored for significant side effects. 2 Surgical intervention can be used to excise localized lesions or fibrofatty residual tissue. Subtotal resection is an option for early treatment as the residual tissue may involute later in life.…”

“…According to the International Society for the Study of Vascular Anomalies (ISSVA) 1,2 , vascular anomalies are classi ed in vascular tumors and vascular malformations 3 . A comprehensive medical history combined with thorough physical examination are essentially required not only to distinguish vascular tumors from vascular malformations, but also to possibly identify the speci c type of vascular tumors 4 .…”
