Variation of magnetic properties of Sr2FeMoO6 due to oxygen vacancies

Abstract: Oxygen vacancies can be of utmost importance for improving or deteriorating physical properties of oxide materials. Here, we studied from first-principles the electronic and magnetic properties of oxygen vacancies in the double perovskite SrFeMoO (SFMO). We show that oxygen vacancies can increase the Curie temperature in SFMO, although the total magnetic moment is reduced at the same time. We found also that the experimentally observed valence change of the Fe ions from 3+  to 2+  in the x-ray magnetic circula… Show more

“…This explanation is in contradiction to ref. [122] where the introduction of oxygen vacancies was found to resemble a stronger localization of the orbitals leading to a decrease in electron hopping and, thereby, to a decrease in magnetic coupling strength. A strong connection of T C to the density of states at the Fermi level was proposed in ref.…”

“…The correlation between M s and ASD defects has been widely studied . The degradation of both M s and T C with increasing ASD as well as the degradation of M s with increasing concentration of oxygen vacancies were predicted in ref.…”
