From continuum mechanical analysis and critical current measurements, Ochiai et al [6] examined the fracture strain in bent Ag/Bi2223 superconducting tapes, and concluded that the fracture strain in the compression side is much larger than that in tension side of 0.24 % when operated at liquid nitrogen temperature, although the fracture strain in compressive side should still be taken into account at strong bending.
