Variation of chromosome numbers in Tanacetum parthenium Schultz Bip. (Asteraceae) in Iran

Abstract: ABSTRACT:Original chromosome counts are reported in 16 populations of Tanactum parthenium Schultz Bip. (Asteraceae) collected from west of Iran. Chromosome numbers in the species were varied from 2n=2x=18 to 2n=4x=36. Ten diploid populations (2n=2x=18) were detected in the studied areas that are accordance with the few prior reports. Three populations with both diploid and tetraploid chromosome number (2n=2x=18 and 36) were identified that is the first report for this species. The results indicated that intras… Show more

“…Meristems were hydrolyzed in 1 M hydrochloric acid for 30 min at room temperature. They were then stained in 2% aceto-orcein for 3h at 4°C (Chehregani et al 2012). Squashes were made in 45% acetic acid.…”

“…As well as the most common chromosome number of Anthemideae is x=8; x=9 and x=10 have been also reported by some researchers (Vallès et al 2005, Chehregani andHajısadeghıan 2009). The basic chromosome number in the genus Tanacetum is x=9 and its species is mostly 2n=2x=18 (Chehregani et al 2012). Cytogenetic studies on Tanacetum generally focused on determination of chromosome numbers (Brown et al 1999, Baltisberger 2006, Li et al 2008 and there was a less detailed study of karyotype analysis.…”
