ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: To assess the seasonal variation of Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus and to estimate the association between the species abundance and abiotic factors. MÉTODOS: METHODS:Tire-traps were kept for a period of 15 days monthly in an urban area of the city of Potim in the state of São Paulo, Southeastern Brazil, from November 2002 to October 2003. “…In spite of the high temperatures at this time of year, the immature forms continue to exploit the large water containers, assuring the continuity of the vector from one season to the next. Other studies have also noted this factor in helping to maintain the vector in the northeast region of the country 24,26,27 .…”

“…Não foi detectada associação entre número de ovos e umidade relativa do ar. Serpa e cols 15 também analisaram a associação entre o número de imaturos de Culicídeos e os valores mensais de fatores abióticos, e encontraram valores significativos da correlação de Sperman apenas em relação à temperatura máxima para …”

“…The increase in Ae. aegypti population associated to climatic changes, particularly to higher temperature and rainfall, have been described in various works (Glasser & Gomes 2002;Gómez et al 2001;Regis et al 2008;Ribeiro et al 2006;Serpa et al 2006;Stein et al 2005;Vezzani et al 2004). The contradictory data obtained in September, when the highest oviposition and lowest rainfall were observed, may possibly reflect a reduction in the number of available breeding sites in the external area (i.e.…”

“…Among the arthropods frequently found in hospitals are spiders, mites, bedbugs, mosquitoes, beetle larvae (Gazeta et al 2007), cockroaches (Martinho 1998), flies (Daniel et al 1992) and ants (Costa et al 2006;Fowler et al 1995;Tanaka et al 2007). Although their role as disease vectors are, in most cases, unknown, part of the problems regarding hospital infections have been attributed to the mechanical dispersion of microorganisms through the legs of ants, including bacteria strains multiresistant to SHORT COMMUNICATION antimicrobials (Tanaka et al 2007).…”
