Westward movement of the IPWP center under the effect of enhanced trade winds during La Niña episodes causes increases in SST and TT and a decrease in ΔT in the ITF region (Delcroix & McPhaden, 2002; Ffield et al., 2000; Picaut et al., 1996; Yan et al., 1992; Zhang et al., 2018). Thus, it is plausible that the thermal evolution of the ITF was also influenced by ENSO‐like states during the past ∼120 kyr.…”
