Variability of the Essential Oil Content and Composition of Chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.) affected by Weather Conditions

Abstract: In our study we examined the variability of the essential oil content and composition of chamomile (Matricaria recutita L.) during three years (2005-2007). Twenty-eight populations of wild origin and 4 registered cultivars ('Soroksári 40', 'Lutea', 'Goral' and 'Bona') were evaluated in open field experiments. It could be established that the experimental populations represented different genetic potential for essential oil accumulation and composition. The best populations of wild growing origin from the Somog… Show more

“…Additionally, a variant low in matricin (prochamazulene) was mentioned. This classification has been used by many authors [13,15,26,27], however, Type A and B have been interchanged. Later, Horn et al [28] could identify four chemotypes as follows: Type I dominated by α-bisabolol and matricin, Type IIa by α-bisabolol oxide A and matricin, Type IIb by α-bisabolol oxide B and matricin, and Type III high in α-bisabolone oxide but devoid of α-bisabolol and matricin.…”

“…It is able to cure skin lesions in colostomy patients and is beneficial for generalized anxiety disorders and anxiolytic activity in patients with mild to moderate GAD ( 22 , 23 ). The chemical compounds of this plant are as follows: apigenin, apigenin-7-O-glucoside, caffeic acid, chlorogenic acid, luteolin, and luteolin-7-O-glucoside, terpene bisabolol ( 24 ) farnesene, chamazulene, flavonoids (including apigenin, quercetin, patuletin, and luteolin), and coumarin ( 25 , 26 ).…”

“…All these compounds are from the sesquiterpene hydrocarbons class which was dominant in both years of the investigation, 52.0% in 2019 and 67.8% in 2020. This variation in volatiles composition could be a consequence of weather conditions, as in case of other aromatic plants [ 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 , 33 ].…”
