Abstract: Jokaisella vanhuksella on Suomessa yksilöllinen, viime kädessä perustuslaissa taattu, oikeus riittävään hoivaan ja huolenpitoon. “…The increasing demand for informal caring is a consequence of the combination of retrenchment and a change in how the role of the family is addressed in public discourse, and in some cases, also how care allowances paid to the carers or the cared-for, is presented as an alternative to services. Such as in Finland, where the use of care allowances for informal care has become increasingly common and families are widely assumed to participate in the care for older relatives at home (Kalliomaa-Puha 2017 ; Kröger 2019 ). Also, in residential care, family members are expected to contribute; a practice that backfired when visits where prohibited due to the COVID-19 pandemic.…”

“…On the other hand, prior evidence from Finland shows that those with high incomes and educational attainment are more likely to buy caring services for their close ones compared to those with low incomes, who usually care by themselves ( Kalliomaa-Puha, 2018 ). This phenomenon can also be considered a socioeconomic issue ( Kalliomaa-Puha, 2018 ). However, the issue is less investigated among family caregivers from different socioeconomic positions, at least in Finland.…”

“…There were no inclusion criteria regarding family caregivers’ age, but they were mainly older adults (98% were 60 and older). In addition, family caregivers mainly cared for their partner (89%), and care recipients were more likely to have memory disorder (63%), which is also the most frequent disease of care recipients under the care allowance ( Kalliomaa-Puha, 2018 ).…”

“…Lisäksi 2000-luvulla omaisten ja läheisten rooli hoivassa näyttäisi korostuvan (Häikiö ym. 2011, 244;Kalliomaa-Puha 2017;Ahosola 2018). Samoin kansalaisten osallisuus on vahvistuva toimintamalli, ja siksi on alettu puhua jopa osallistumisyhteiskunnasta hyvinvointiyhteiskunnan sijaan (Knijn & Hopman 2015;Matthies 2017, 150).…”
