Vanadium and lithium contamination in freshwaters of the Conchos River in Chihuahua, Mexico

Abstract: The hydraulic Conchos Watershed is essential for the inhabitants of the state of Chihuahua, Mexico. Nevertheless, evidence shows that the water that flows in the Conchos River is contaminated. The objective was to determine if Vanadium (V) and Lithium (Li) were present in the water of the Conchos River.

“…Drinking water is considered the major source of environmental Li exposure, with notable dietary contributions as well, and Li exposure varies considerably by geography ( Anke et al, 2003 ). In Mexico, Li water levels in the north and center of the country are higher compared to US levels ( Lindsey et al, 2021 ; Rubio-Arias et al, 2007 ; Padilla-Reyes et al, 2012 ). A small study of mother-infant pairs in Argentina showed Li is transported across the placenta with no saturation effect, and that exclusively breastfed infants had significantly lower urinary Li than non-exclusively breastfed infants up to 4 months of age ( Harari et al, 2012 ).…”

“…Concentrations of lithium in surface water are typically low (1-100 lg/L; Martinez and Carrillo-Rivera 2006;Rubio-Arias et al 2007). Lithium is a classic tool for the study of phosphoinositide-dependent cellular process.…”

“…Джерела забруднення також металургійна, машинобудівна, текстильна та лакофарбова промисловості. У природних водах знаходиться в низьких концентраціях 0,2-4,5 мкг/дм 3 (Rubio-Arias et al, 2007). Найвищі концентрації ванадію, які коливаються в межах 17,7-48,8 мг/дм 3 , зафіксовано у поверхневих водах поблизу підніжжя гори Фудзі (Японії).…”
