The rapid evolution of the digital era has resulted in new theoretical models that seek answers to consumer behavior, but only some have been empirically validated. The social theory of fear of (FO) has gained notoriety as a type of social anxiety, resulting in psychological dependence on social media (SNS). These social anxieties transcend and are used as strategic resources to activate quick consumer responses. However, three forces act in the study of FO that positively or negatively impact decision‐making: (a) fear of missing out (FoMO), (b) fear of better options (FoBO), and (c) fear of doing anything (FoDA). The literature has analyzed the positive implications of FoMO on consumers' decision‐making from different perspectives, but there needs to be a gap in analyzing how FoMO affects consumers. More analysis of the forces that affect decision‐making through FoBO and FoDA acts is needed. Consequently, this study examined how the FoMO, FoBO, and FoDA affect the purchase intention of SNS users. The roles of SNS usage and anticipated emotions as forces that trigger FO were analyzed. Finally, we examined whether motivation to participate in social media is a force that can moderate how consumers trigger FO. An electronic survey of 543 participants and active social media users revealed that social media use, anticipated emotions, and motivation to participate are forces that explain how they trigger FO through their first‐stage FoMO on consumers. The results reflect theoretical and practical implications by concluding that the FoMO for marketing purposes is significant in decision‐making. However, FoBO and FoDA inhibit the consumer's ability to commit to a decision.

The paper analyzes the cryptocurrency ecosystem at both the aggregate and individual levels to understand the factors that impact future volatility. The study uses high-frequency panel data from 2020 to 2022 to examine the relationship between several market volatility drivers, such as daily leverage, signed volatility and jumps. Several known autoregressive model specifications are estimated over different market regimes, and results are compared to equity data as a reference benchmark of a more mature asset class. The panel estimations show that the positive market returns at the high-frequency level increase price volatility, contrary to what is expected from the classical financial literature. We attributed this effect to the price dynamics over the last year of the dataset (2022) by repeating the estimation on different time spans. Moreover, the positive signed volatility and negative daily leverage positively impact the cryptocurrencies’ future volatility, unlike what emerges from the same study on a cross-section of stocks. This result signals a structural difference in a nascent cryptocurrency market that has to mature yet. Further individual-level analysis confirms the findings of the panel analysis and highlights that these effects are statistically significant and commonly shared among many components in the selected universe.

Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) is a term defined as the fear of being left behind. FOMO is not unique to a certain age group. It is experienced by anyone of any age group who has low levels of self-esteem and self-compassion and high levels of loneliness. So, it is likely that FOMO can be experienced not only by digital natives but also by digital immigrants such as parents, teachers, or grandparents. Although it has been mentioned that FOMO is not limited to certain age groups, a common research gap is that FOMO-related studies have mostly been conducted on adolescent populations and young adults/college students. FOMO on Workplace is the fear of losing career opportunities compared to other employees when on vacation or not working. This study aims to collect and analyze research related to FOMO conducted in the working adult population, especially employees/workers. In order to become one of the sources of information for professional organizations in providing interventions to employees either in personal or professional development. This study was a systematic review. The search was conducted using Google Scholar search on the Publish or Perish application with Publication name aimed at Elsevier, Sage, and Springer. This insight shows that FOMO was not only a relevant phenomenon for young people, teenagers, and students but also among workers.
