Value of two-cycle docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluorouracil induction chemotherapy in hypopharyngeal carcinoma

Abstract: Various studies have investigated laryngeal function and survival after induction chemotherapy in hypopharyngeal carcinoma, but potential factors to help predict response rates after induction chemotherapy remain unknown. This retro- spective study evaluated which factors are related to an ineffective response to two-cycle docetaxel, cisplatin, and 5-fluoro- uracil (TPF) induction chemotherapy in hypopharyngeal carcinoma to determine potential candidates for this treatment in clinical practice. From Jan 2005 t… Show more

“…The compound ID (CID) of DDP in PubChem Compound is 441203 ( Figure 1B). It has been extensively utilized to cure different types of neoplasms, including head and neck (9,10), lung (11,12), ovarian (13,14), breast (15,16), brain (17,18), kidney (19,20), and esophagus cancers (21)(22)(23). In general, DDP and other platinum-based compounds are considered to be cytotoxic drugs, which can induce apoptosis of cancer cells (24).…”

“…Older age, higher HGB, lower T-stage, and lower PLT are associated with a better response to IC. Luo et al demonstrate that a response to IC is associated with lymph node size, tumor grade, invasion region, T-stage, and primary tumor site (24). Previous studies show that histological grade is correlated with chemotherapy response (25)(26)(27).…”

“…Cis-diamminedichloroplatinum (II) (cisplatin, CDDP), due to its broad spectrum of clinical activity and high efficacy, is one of the most extensively used chemotherapeutic drug and anticancer agent for treatment of numerous solid tumors [1][2][3], including testicular cancer [4], ovarian cancer [5], breast cancer [6], cervical cancer [7], non-small cell lung cancer [8], head and neck cancer [9], bladder cancer [10] and others [1,3,11]. Anticancer activity of CDDP has also been demonstrated when it is used in combination with other types of anticancer therapy, including radiotherapy [12], chemotherapy [13] or immunotherapy [3,14]. Unfortunately, the clinical use of CDDP has been largely limited due to its serious severe side effects including nephrotoxicity [15,16], ototoxicity [15], neurotoxicity [17], cardiotoxicity [18], gastrointestinal toxicity [19], hepatotoxicity [16], hematological toxicity [20].…”
