Vitamin C [ascorbic acid (AA)] is an imperative antioxidant that humans require. Fruits and vegetables commonly contain AA. The application of titrimetric or chromatographic methods is generally performed to analyze AA; nevertheless, these approaches have several disadvantages such as being very costly for chromatographic methods and exhibiting food color interference upon using titration techniques. This study cruises the application of microwave treatment on AA compounds of plant samples and identified the AA level using Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. The purposes of this study were to establish a validated method for the microwave-assisted isolation (MAI) of AA from plant samples. Validation studies such as linearity, selectivity, sensitivity, detection, and quantitation limits were evaluated using a standard AA solution. These methods were also applied for AA quantitation in oranges, guava, and spinach. The methods were selective and sensitive when applied to the standard solution. The FTIR spectroscopy approach was more sensitive, with lower values for detection limit (13.76 nmol•L −1 ) and quantitation limit (41.69 nmol•L −1 ), and more accurate with an error of less than 1%. The imperative AA groups are also identified, such as the hydroxyl groups found at 3297 nm −1 . In contrast, the aromatic group of AA can be obtained at 2084 cm −1 , although the absorption intensity is weak. The 1635 cm −1 atom is related to the carbonyl group (−C�O). The validated method was applied to investigate the AA level in plant samples, and all of them showed identical peaks with the standard, showing that the MAI has isolated the AA completely.

Melasma is a fairly common condition that is the result of hyperpigmentation caused by increased melanin secretion. In the course of melasma, certain areas of the skin become darker than the rest of the epidermis. Although the pathogenesis remains incompletely clarified, several contributing factors have been identified, namely exposure to ultraviolet and visible light, family predisposition, pregnancy, and the use of exogenous hormones. Since current beauty standards associate healthy skin with its flawless and uniform color, people strive to eliminate any unaesthetic discoloration. Cosmetic and pharmaceutical products containing active substances with a whitening effect then become helpful. The most commonly used for this purpose are hydroquinone, arbutin, retinoids, organic acids (e.g., kojic, azelaic, and ellagic), and vitamins (B3, C, and E). However, the undesirable side effects they cause and the drive to replace synthetic chemicals with their natural counterparts have resulted in numerous reports on extracts of natural origin that exhibit skin-whitening effects. The purpose of this paper is to review the most recent scientific literature, which presents active substances of natural and synthetic origin with potential for the treatment of melasma. In addition, analytical techniques that can be used for qualitative and quantitative analysis of these substances present in cosmetic and pharmaceutical products will also be presented.

Fruits are very often used for the wine preparation since the beginning of civilization. In recent years emphasis has been given to fruits such as banana for the preparation of wine. Banana is highly perishable in nature, the fermentation is a low energy prevention process to increase a shelf life of this fruits. Banana has good amount of sugar content that makes them suitable substrate for the preparation of wine. The fermenting for analysis of pH, titrable acidity, specific gravity and reducing sugar using standard fermentation of banana wine lasted for 7 days. Physico-chemical parameters were determined during fermentation using standard procedures. Liquor of the fermenting must remove from every 48 hours from standard procedures. The effects showed that specific gravity of the wine used to be discovered to reduced notably as the fermentation progressed. The pH of banana wine at some point of fermentation improved from 3.80 to 4.16 at day to the closing day while the titrable acidity. (% w/v tartaric acid) of the banana wine reduced make bigger from 1.05 to 1.77. The alcohol content of the wine multiplied with time. This work has been focused on formulation and evaluation of banana wine in college laboratory
