Valorization of biomass into amine- functionalized bio graphene for efficient ciprofloxacin adsorption in water-modeling and optimization study

Abstract: A green synthesis approach was conducted to prepare amine-functionalized bio-graphene (AFBG) as an efficient and low cost adsorbent that can be obtained from agricultural wastes. In this study, bio-graphene was successfully used to remove Ciprofloxacin (CIP) from synthetic solutions. The efficacy of adsorbent as a function of operating variables (i.e. pH, time, AFBG dose and CIP concentration) was described by a polynomial model. A optimal99.3% experimental removal was achieved by adjusting the mixing time, AF… Show more

“…Conversion processes can be based on both biochemical or thermochemical routes. Generally, thermochemical processes are widely used for biomass conversion and energy recovery since they use well-developed technologies [1][2][3][4]. On the other side, biomass-derived carbohydrates represent a versatile platform for the production of a variety of final products [5].…”

“…The predicted photocatalytic degradation efficiency of MO (Y) was used as the dependent variable. A quadratic polynomial equation (Equation ( 10)) was used to fit the response variables [20,45]:…”

“…The interactions between the operating parameters can be estimated using a limited number of experiments [15]. The two most popular experimental design methods for RSM are the central composite design (CCD) and Box-Behnken design (BBD) [16][17][18][19][20][21]. In this study, we carried out both synthesis of hybrid Gd 2 O 3 -ZIF-8 nanocomposites using an ultrasound assisted method and an RSM experiment based on BBD to obtain optimum conditions for photocatalytic degradation of MO dye.…”

“…Conventional wastewater treatment methods are unable to sufficiently remove CIP from water, owing to CIP's biodegradation resistance (Ghadiri et al, 2020;Liang et al, 2018). In response to this problem, removal mechanisms such as ozonation (Bilal et al, 2021), catalytic oxidation (Nemati et al, 2019), photocatalytic degradation of CIP with hematite (Fe 2 O 3 ) nanoparticles (Rajiv et al, 2021), electro-Fenton (Mi et al, 2018), electrocoagulation (Mohammed et al, 2021), magnetic nanomaterials (Chang et al, 2021) reverse osmosis (Río-gamero et al, 2018), solar photo-oxidation (Tawfik et al, 2022) and adsorption (Liang et al, 2018;Río-gamero et al, 2018;Ezekoye et al, 2020) have been explored for the removal of CIP from water.…”
