Validation of the Turkish version of the fatigue severity scale in patients with fibromyalgia

Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish version of the fatigue severity scale (FSS) in fibromyalgia (FM) patients. Sixty-one FM patients and 54 healthy controls were evaluated using the Turkish version of the FSS. Reliability was investigated using test-retest reliability and internal consistency. Concurrent validity was evaluated between the FSS score and the VAS fatigue. Convergent validity was assessed by comparing the FSS score with the scores of VAS pain, Beck D… Show more

“…10 Psychological status was assessed by using Beck Depression Scale, 11 and fatigue by Fatigue Severity Scale. 12 Disease activity was measured by using the quadrivariate disease activity score-28 (DAS28), 3 and RADAI-5. 6 Rheumatoid Arthritis Disease Activity Index-5 is a 5-item, self-administered RA-specific questionnaire that assesses global disease activity in last six months and current disease activity in terms of joint swelling and tenderness, pain, duration of morning stiffness and general health.…”

“…It consists of 9 statements that are scored on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree) a total score is calculated as the mean score of the 9 statements [16]. A lower total score indicates less effect of fatigue on everyday life [16]. Depressive symptoms in all of the groups were obtained from the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) [17].…”

“…Higher scores indicate greater pain severity [15]. For a global assessment of fatigue severity, we used a validated Turkish version of Fatigue severity scale in patients with FM(FSS) [16]. It consists of 9 statements that are scored on a 7-point Likert scale, ranging from 1 (strongly disagree) to 7 (strongly agree) a total score is calculated as the mean score of the 9 statements [16].…”
