However, in practice, much shorter integration times are often used, especially when analysing short duration breath exhalations and then a practical limit of quantification (for 30% precision) can be evaluated on the basis of Poisson statistics: 1 ppbv of the neutral compound being analysed is needed to generate 10 recorded analyte ions during 1 s. The absolute accuracy of SIFT-MS has been validated to be better than 10% 33,34 for several compounds without the need for external standards.
