Validation of the Microlife WatchBP O3 device for clinic, home, and ambulatory blood pressure measurement, according to the International Protocol

Abstract: To determine the accuracy of the Microlife WatchBP O3 blood pressure measuring device tested according to the requirements of the International Protocol of the European Society of Hypertension. The WatchBP O3 is designed to provide clinic, ambulatory, and self blood pressure (BP) measurements. Device evaluation was performed in 33 participants with a mean +/- standard deviation age of 56.1+/-20.7 years (range 30-95 years). Their systolic BP (SBP) was 144.7+/-24.1 mmHg (range 90-180 mmHg), diastolic BP (DBP) wa… Show more

“…11,12 The monitors were programmed to measure BP at 20-min intervals for 24 h and were applied on a routine working day. Subjects were instructed to follow their usual daily activities but to avoid extremely strenuous physical activities and to remain still with the forearm extended during each BP reading.…”

“…BP was measured at the clinic with validated oscillometric devices [23][24][25] or calibrated mercury sphygmomanometers after 5 minutes of rest in a sitting position using standardized recommended procedures. 21,22 Clinic BP values were calculated as the mean of 2 readings.…”

“…In the analyses, BP was calculated as the mean of the last two of the three readings. Thereafter, 24-hour ABPM was performed using a validated automated non-invasive oscillometric device (Microlife® WatchBPO3 monitor), 31 We have used these terms for the sake of simplicity. However, among untreated patients, the terms normotension, whitecoat hypertension, masked hypertension, and sustained hypertension would be more correct, and among treated patients, the terms controlled hypertension, white-coat uncontrolled hypertension, masked uncontrolled hypertension, and uncontrolled hypertension would be appropriate.…”
