Utilization of the large-bore Penumbra JET 7 reperfusion catheter in thrombectomy for acute ischemic stroke: A single-center experience

Abstract: Background and Purpose The Penumbra JET 7 reperfusion catheter is used in the revascularization of large vessel occlusions in acute ischemic stroke. Description of its use in clinical practice remains limited. Our purpose is to describe our initial experience with the Penumbra JET 7 reperfusion catheter and to report on its safety and efficacy in different thrombectomy techniques. Materials and Methods We conducted a retrospective study of 50 patients treated with thrombectomy using the Penumbra JET 7 reperfus… Show more

“…Ultimately, 30 studies including 3228 patients met final inclusion criteria for the meta-regression (table 1). 3–32 Twenty of these studies were single center retrospective analyses, while nine were multicenter and retrospective in design, and one study was a multicenter prospective study.…”

“…Subtle specification differences between catheters exist ( Table 3 ). Studies of clinical experience with these catheters has yielded similar rates of efficacy (reperfusion rates, number of passes, procedure times, outcomes), and safety (procedural complications) to AXS Vecta 71 [ 27 , 40 - 42 ]. There are no published clinical studies utilizing RED72 catheters at this time.…”

“…Currently, available aspiration catheter ID now range between 0.035 inches and up to 0.074 inches. [27][28][29][30][31] The AXS Vecta 71 and AXS Vecta 74 (Stryker Neurovascular, Fremont, CA, USA) aspiration catheters were recently approved for thrombectomy, with an ID of 0.071 inches and 0.074 inches, respectively. The Vecta 071 can be delivered through a 0.088-inch guide catheter or larger.…”

“…Additionally, successful recanalization rate was comparable to that of previous studies using stent-retrievers [ 11 ]. The use of JET 7 has been demonstrated to be safe and effective in different thrombectomy techniques and in other occlusion site (M1, M2, P1 segments) with mTICI 2b/3 achieved in 86% [ 12 , 13 ]. Limitations were: a retrospective, non-consecutive design; limited number of cases; lack of a first-line stent retriever control group.…”
