-The objective of this work was to evaluate the efficiency of superficial application of limestone and slag, and their effects on soil chemical attributes and on yield and mineral nutrition of soybean, maize, and Congo signal grass (Urochloa ruziziensis). The experiment was carried out in a Rhodic Hapludox under no tillage system. The treatments consisted of the use of limestone or slag (silicates of calcium and magnesium) to correct soil acidity, and of a control treatment without the use of soil correctives. Rates were calculated in order to raise soil base saturation up to 70%. Soybean was sown in November 2006 and maize in December 2007. Congo signal grass was sown right after the harvests of soybean and maize, and it was cropped during the offseasons. Soil chemical attributes were evaluated at 6, 12, and 18 months after the application of the corrective materials. Slag is an efficient source for soil acidity correction, being able to raise the exchangeable base levels in the soil profile faster than lime. Both limestone and slag increase dry matter yield of Congo signal grass, and grain yield of soybean and maize. Slag is more effective in improving maize grain yield.Index terms: no tillage, silicon, soil chemical attributes, superficial liming, subsuperficial acidity, yield components. Produtividade e nutrição mineral de soja, milho e capim-ruziziensis influenciados por calcário e escória de siderurgiaResumo -O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência da aplicação superficial de calcário e escória de siderurgia e seus efeitos nos atributos químicos do solo e na produtividade e nutrição de soja, milho e capim-ruziziensis (Urochloa ruziziensis). O experimento foi conduzido em Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico, sob sistema de semeadura direta. Os tratamentos consistiram do uso de calcário e de escória de siderurgia (silicatos de cálcio e magnésio), para corrigir a acidez do solo, e de uma testemunha sem aplicação de corretivos. As dosagens foram calculadas com o intuito de elevar a saturação por bases a 70%. A soja foi semeada em novembro de 2006 e o milho em dezembro de 2007. O capim-ruziziensis foi semeado logo após as colheitas da soja e do milho e foi cultivado durante as entressafras. Os atributos químicos do solo foram avaliados aos 6, 12 e 18 meses após a aplicação dos corretivos. A escória é uma fonte eficiente para correção da acidez do solo e é capaz de aumentar o nível de bases trocáveis no perfil do solo mais rapidamente do que o calcário. Tanto o calcário como a escória aumentam a produção de matéria seca do capim-ruziziensis e a produção de grãos de soja e milho. Although lime is currently the most commonly applied material for soil acidity correction in Brazil, calciummagnesium silicate application may efficiently replace this source due to its higher solubility and silicon supply, which is beneficial for plant development. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of surface liming and silicate application on soil chemical attributes as well as soybean and maize nutrition, yield components, and grain yield. The experiment was conducted in a Rhodic Hapludox in Botucatu-SP, Brazil. The randomized complete block design contained 16 replications. Treatments consisted of two materials for soil acidity correction (dolomitic lime, calcium/magnesium silicate), applied on October 2006 to raise base saturation up to 70%, and a control, with no acidity correction. Soybean and maize were sown in 2006/2007 and 2007/2008, respectively. After 18 months Ca-Mg silicate corrected soil acidity up to 0.60 m, and increased exchangeable base levels up to 0.40 m. Silicate increased silicon concentrations in plant tissues in both crops as well as phosphorus in soybean. The application of both sources increased calcium and magnesium concentrations as well as yield components and yield grains of soybean and maize. RESUMOOs sistemas de manejo agindo com condicionadores do solo podem alterar a qualidade física do solo e restringir ou maximizar a produção agrícola. Objetivou-se com este estudo avaliar os atributos físicos e o desempenho agronômico da cultura da soja em um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico submetido a dois sistemas de manejos em Dourados-MS. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados, em esquema de parcelas subsubdivididas, sendo dois sistemas manejo do solo nas (parcelas) com 0 e 2000 kg ha -1 de gesso agrícola (subparcelas) e cinco profundidades (0-0,05, 0,05-0,10, 0,10-0,15, 0,15-0,20 e 0,20-0,30 m, sendo as subsubparcelas) com quatro repetições. Foram avaliados atributos físicos do solo e desempenho agronômico da cultura da soja. Os resultados mostram que a densidade do solo foi maior no plantio direto. A macroporosidade foi maior na profundidade de 0-0,05 m no plantio convencional e a microporosidade aumentou com a profundidade nos sistemas de manejo. A resistência à penetração aumentou em maiores profundidades. O plantio direto reduziu o número de vagens e o efeito residual de gesso aumentou a altura final das plantas.Termos para indexação: Plantio direto, plantio convencional, Glycine max (L.) Merr. ABSTRACTManagement systems acting with soil conditioners can change the physical quality of the soil and restrict or maximize agricultural production. In this study, we assessed the effect of the tillage system with and without the gypsum residual effect at different depths in a dystrophic red Oxisol in Dourados, State of Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. The experimental design was randomized blocks with arrangements of subdivided plots; the treatments were two soil manure systems, in plots and with 0 and 2000 kg ha -1 gypsum (subplots) and five depths (0-0.05, 0.05-0.10, 0.10-0.15, 0.15-0.20, and 0.20-0.30 m, the latter ones being the subplots) with four replicates. Physical attributes of the soil and agronomic performance of soybean crop were evaluated. The results show that the soil density was higher in tillage system and the gypsum residual effect influenced the soil density at 0.10-0.15 m deep. The macro porosity was higher at 0-0.05 m deep in conventional sowing and the micro porosity increased with the depth in the manure systems. The penetration resistance increased in higher depths. The tillage system with reduced pod number and gypsum residual effect increased the plant height.
