Uterine Deciduoma Induction: Comparison of Direct Mechanical Trauma With Systemic Pyrathiazine

Abstract

Uterine deciduoma induction in rats by the systemic administration of the antihistamine, pyrathiazine, was compared with induction by intraluminal scratching. Intraperitoneal injection of pyrathiazine hydrochloride (25 mg.) was effective as a deciduoma inducer in 52 % of the animals.Intrauterine scratching resulted in a higher water content of the uterus than pyrathiazine treatment. Differences in histamine concentration of the uteri were not significant, but there were differences in tissue permeability, determined by the uptake of trypan blue. Tissue permeability was measured \ m=1/ 2\ , 1\ m=1/ 2\ and 4 hr. after deciduoma induction. A diphasic pattern of increased tissue permeability was observed in the pyrathiazine-treated rats which duplicated the characteristic response of inflammation and injury, suggesting that systemically given pyrathiazine evoked the decidual reaction as a result of injury to the uterus.
