The objective of this work was to evaluate the effectiveness of quicklime and shallow fermentation applications on the reduction of Clostridium perfringens and enterobacteria in recycled poultry litter, in dark house and conventional systems. Eighty litter samples were evaluated, being divided into four groups: litter treated with quicklime in dark house; litter treated with shallow fermentation and quicklime in dark house; and litter treated with quicklime in conventional broiler house; litter treated with shallow fermentation and quicklime in conventional broiler house. Samples were collected one day before slaughter and five days after litter treatment and were subjected to the quantitative microbiological analysis of enterobacteria and C. perfringens. The bacterial load in pre-treated litter was similar between the dark house and conventional systems. The groups treated only with quicklime showed a significant reduction of enterobacteria in both systems. The reduction of C. perfringens was only observed in the litter group treated with shallow fermentation and quicklime, in conventional broiler house. The use of 500 g m-2 quicklime is the most effective method to reduce enterobacteria load in broiler litter both in the dark house and conventional broiler house systems. The combined treatment of shallow fermentation for seven days with the subsequent application of 500 g m-2 quicklime is efficient for the reduction of C. perfringens in broiler litter, in conventional broiler house.

Objetivou-se verificar o efeito do tratamento dos dejetos de poedeiras comerciais sobre o teor de matéria seca, o pH e a quantidade de amônia volatilizada. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados em esquema fatorial 4 x 5 (4 tipos de dejetos x 5 períodos) e quatro repetições. Avaliou-se: dejetos frescos (DF), DF + óxido de cálcio (500 g.m2), DF + sulfato de cálcio (40% do peso da cama) e DF + terra diatomácea (200 g.m2), nos períodos 0 (antes da aplicação) e aos 4, 8, 12 e 16 dias após a aplicação. Observou-se que os dejetos tratados com óxido e sulfato de Cálcio apresentaram maiores teores de matéria seca em comparação ao controle. Verificou-se comportamento quadrático para o teor de matéria seca em função do período. O pH dos dejetos frescos e dejetos tratados com terra diatomácea não alterou durante os períodos analisados, no entanto, os dejetos tratados com óxido e sulfato de cálcio apresentaram comportamento quadrático ao longo dos 16 dias de avaliação para essa variável. Para a amônia volatilizada, os dejetos submetidos a aplicação de sulfato de cálcio e terra diatomácea não diferiram do controle até 12 dias após a aplicação. Contudo, a adição de óxido de cálcio nos dejetos promoveu efeito quadrático para essa variável durante todo período experimental. A adição de sulfato de cálcio aos dejetos de poedeiras reduz a umidade e o pH e inibe a volatilização da amônia por até 12 dias. Após este período recomenda-se uma nova aplicação.

Poultry waste recycling is now a globally practice consolidated in agriculture. However, the proper disposal of poultry waste should enable to reduce N losses and to decrease pollution potential from the high concentrations of poultry litter applied to soil. In this context, the aim of the present study was to evaluate poultry litter doses and the effect of an urease inhibitor on the chemical attributes of a dystrophic Red Latosol. Two experiments were carried out, one in a greenhouse and another in a eucalyptus forest area, both applying completely randomized design with a 2 × 6 + 1 factorial arrangement, applying two types and six doses of poultry litter (5, 10, 20, 40, 80 and 160 t ha-1) plus the controls, with four replicates, total of 52 pots. The application of poultry litter doses altered soil chemical attributes, except for potential acidity. Soil pH, cation exchange capacity (CEC), sum of bases (SB) and electric conductivity (EC) values and Ca, Mg, K, P, S, organic matter (OM), Mn, Zn and Cu levels increased with increasing poultry litter doses, while Fe and B contents decreased. The 40, 80 and 160 t ha-1 poultry litter doses led to contamination potential of the soil due to salinity and alkalinity, and also raised the EC of the percolate at levels limiting to plants. The NBPT (N-butyl thiophosphoric triamide) urease inhibitor exhibited no influence on soil chemical attributes.
