Using the ASCII version of the global paleomagnetic database

Abstract: In August 1991, through the World Data Center A in Boulder, Colo., the first version of the Global Paleomagnetic Database (GPMDB) developed by Lock and McElhinny [1991] was released for general use. Two versions of the GPMDB were developed, the first for the ORACLE Database Management System and the second in ASCII form. A program that allows remote users to search the “ABASE” version of GPMDB via Internet, selecting data on the basis of geographical coordinates of sampling sites and magnetization ages, was re… Show more

“…These conformities ( Fig. 1) are supported by successful cartographic experiments (Scalera 2018) that match all the similarities on an Earth of about 55% of the current radius, with important support of paleopole data from the GPMDB catalogue (Lock & McElhinny 1991;Florindo et al 1994;Pisarevsky 2005). In PS2 these results are overlooked or devalued, perhaps intentionally showing only incorrect representations that would be more readily rejected by average readers.…”

“…For both of these purposes, software has been developed by the Istituto Nazionale di Geofisica (Florindo et al 1994), based on the ACCESS version of the GPMDB. This software uses 20 criteria in space, time and quality, enabling immediate evaluation of the pole distributions by means of a mapping program.…”
