Background This pilot study aimed to investigate the effects of developing scenario learning (DSL) on team efficacy, systems thinking, and proactivity in problem-solving in a fundamental nursing course. Methods A total of 53 second-year nursing students were enrolled in the study; the DSL nursing education program was implemented for 15 weeks from March 4 to June 17, 2021. Data on team efficacy, systems thinking, and proactivity in problem-solving were measured before and after the DSL-based nursing education program. The collected data were analyzed using the IBM SPSS Statistics version 22.0. Results The results demonstrated that nursing students’ team efficacy (t = − 8.228, p < .001, Cohen’s d = 1.079), systems thinking (t = − 9.757, p < .001, Cohen’s d = .731), and proactivity in problem-solving (t = − 8.635, p < .001, Cohen’s d = .992) significantly increased after the program. Conclusions The findings of this study can contribute to the development of nursing competency in nursing students without experience in nursing practicum. The authors recommend incorporating DSL in the nursing curriculum to promote early adaptation in clinical settings.

Background Medical errors are a worldwide concern and the contribution of nurses’ safety competence and performance to these errors is a high priority. It has been over 20 years since the first report of the need to address medical errors. New approaches are needed for enhancing safety competence and performance. Aims This study explored the relationships among systems thinking, educational level, safety culture, safety competence and safety performance among registered nurses working in medical and surgical units in Saudi Arabia. Methods A correlational cross-sectional design with a convenience sample of 84 registered nurses was used. Results Systems thinking predicted 16% of safety knowledge ( F[2, 81] = 7.61, P = 0.001), while safety culture, baccalaureate education and completion of safety training predicted 19% of safety skill ( F[3, 78] = 2.80, P = 0.001). A safety culture that promoted learning from mistakes predicted 15% of safety performance measured based on nurses’ self-report of the number of errors in the past 3 months ( F[3, 75] = 2.86, P = 0.008). Conclusions Professional development including systems thinking and safety training are the necessary next steps for nurses. In addition, policy changes facilitating organisations to support learning from mistakes will contribute to reducing medical errors.

Data mining belongs to knowledge discovery, which is the process of revealing hidden, unknown, and valuable information from a large amount of fuzzy application data. The potential information revealed by data mining can help decision-makers adjust market strategies and reduce market risks. The information mined can be the discovery of a particular study and little known, which must be based on the principle of truth. Nursing safety means that during nursing work, the nursing staff must strictly follow the nursing system and operating procedures, accurately execute doctor’s orders, implement nursing plans, and ensure that patients get physical and mental safety during treatment and recovery. This paper aims to explore the construction of nursing safety quality management system and its effect analysis based on data mining. It is hoped that improvements in hospital nursing processes will provide better nursing services for patients using data mining techniques. This paper uses the FP algorithm to mine the data set and generates frequent itemsets, proposes and implements the association rule mining algorithm, and obtains the association rules with practical reference value. This article analyzes the current status and existing problems of nursing management, and puts forward some problems existing in the current nursing management staff’s own quality, nursing quality system standards, and nursing management system. The experimental results in this article show that there are 42 cases of poor nursing due to lack of basic medical knowledge, accounting for 52%; there are 12 cases of poor nursing due to their own diseases, accounting for 15%; there were 7 cases of poor nursing due to lack of communication, accounting for 9%; there were 15 cases of poor nursing caused by unreasonable use of restraint devices, accounting for 19%. From these data, it can be seen that patients need to have basic medical knowledge and act in strict accordance with doctors’ orders. Family members also need to accompany the patients more and cooperate with all parties in order to maximize the effectiveness of care.
