Ecohydrology, an interdisciplinary subject connecting ecology and hydrology, has developed rapidly in recent years. Because lakes and reservoirs are responsible for the drinking water supply of billions of people and water issues are becoming increasingly severe, the importance of these water bodies is self-evident. Lake (reservoir) ecohydrology has thus attracted considerable attention. This study aimed to analyse the characteristics and development trends of ecohydrology using a bibliometric analysis based on the Science Citation Index database. A total of 21,753 papers from 1900 to 2017 on lake (reservoir) ecohydrology were published in 2,323 journals, and the large majority of them were published in the past three decades. Most research has been concentrated in Europe (40.0%) and North America (31.0%).Among these studies, a few key lakes, for example, Lake Taihu, Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, and Lake Ontario, have been analysed in detail by numerous researchers. The results of a word frequency analysis show that the topics related to ecohydrology have transformed from the microcosmic perspective to the macroscopic perspective, and major topics include eutrophication, global change, models, and ecosystem management. The results of a principal component analysis show that the scope of lake (reservoir) ecohydrology research in Europe and North America has stagnated in recent years, whereas in China, ecohydrology research has developed rapidly over the same period. The development of ecohydrology research around the world is not even, and we need to push for more research on major lakes that are outside of Europe, the United States, and China.

Background Scholarship is an essential component of fellowship programs. Postprofessional fellowship directors are considered research mentors, but their publication records have not been documented. Objectives The primary purpose of this research was to characterize the publication records and bibliometric indices of the current postprofessional fellowship directors listed on the American College of Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) website. A secondary purpose was to compare the publication metrics of distinct groups within this cohort. Methods Using the Web of Science database, the publication records of all listed postprofessional fellowship directors on the ACCP website were collected. Forty‐nine unique directors were identified from the website. Bibliometric indices calculated included: lifetime publications, publications/year, h‐index, m‐quotient, lifetime citations, citations/year, average citations/paper, productivity, and creativity. In addition, we compared peer reviewed fellowship directors and non‐peer‐reviewed fellowship directors, infectious disease fellowship directors, and noninfectious disease fellowship directors, and National Institutes of Health (NIH)‐funded fellowship directors and non‐NIH funded directors. The Kruskal‐Wallis analysis of variance for nonparametric data was used to assess differences between groups. The a priori level of significance was set at P < .01. Results Within our research cohort, 12 (24%) of the fellowship directors had less than 10 lifetime publications and 12 (24%) had an h‐index of less than five. Infectious disease directors had higher bibliometric indices than noninfectious disease directors (P < .01) as did NIH‐funded researchers when compared with their nonfunded counterparts (P < .01). Gender differences, secondary degrees, and peer‐review status were not significantly different between groups. Conclusion Fellowship directors should possess an established record of scholarly activity to function in the role of research mentor. Benchmarking of bibliometric indices could be an important tool in the overall evaluation of fellowship director qualifications in the future.

Publication trends in pediatric renal transplantation: Bibliometric analysis of literature from 1950 to 2017

Introduction Pediatric renal transplantation has been heavily published since the 1950s. Herein, we describe the bibliometrics and impact of the 200 most‐cited pediatric renal transplantation manuscripts. Methods We identified pediatric renal transplantation publications from 1900 onwards. Year, citations, h‐index, geographic origin, impact factor, topic, and design of the 200 top‐cited papers were extracted. Impact index was calculated, adjusting for citation volume and time since publication. Results Of the top 200 papers, mean citation count was 80 ± 40, impact factor 3.9 ± 3.7, h‐index 35 ± 20, and impact index 25 ± 13. Studies were mostly retrospective (31%) or observational (32%). Most papers originated from the United States (58%), Germany (9%), and Italy (6%), which did not correlate with citation counts. Transplantation (18%), Pediatric Nephrology (16%), and American Journal of Transplantation (11%) had the highest publication volume, which did not correlate with citation count. The main topics were medical renal disease, drug monitoring, compliance, and viruses. Most of the top‐cited papers (179; 90%) were published after 1991. The difference in the number of times cited between papers published before and after 1991 was insignificant (75 ± 24 vs 80 ± 42; P = 0.59). There was a difference in impact index for the same period (48 ± 15 vs 22 ± 10; P < 0.01). Conclusions The most‐cited papers were concentrated in three journals, but the top three cited papers were published elsewhere. Recent publications were more cited with a higher impact than older papers. Despite the importance of surgery in transplantation, there is a paucity of high‐impact papers on this topic.
