Using a Diagnostic Test of Pupils’ Alternative Conceptions to Plan a Teaching Strategy on Electric Circuits

Abstract: This paper describes a project on electricity education, aiming at the construction of a teaching strategy which takes into account pupils' alternative conceptions on electric circuits. With this project we want to provide teachers with feasible diagnostic tools and teaching materials in order to promote conceptual change among pupils. The research findings indicate the effectiveness of a teaching strategy in one of the higher forms of secondary education in which an explicit confrontation takes place between … Show more

“…ISSN 1648-3898 /Print/ ISSN 2538-7138 /Online/ To this point, there is an urgent need to diagnose students' ACs about the CEAS that identify students' problems, which could provide useful information to support them better understanding. In addition, understanding students' ACs toward the CEAS can also provide valuable information for teachers to make their instructional decisions (Licht, 1991;Mdachi, 2012). Many existing AC studies have investigated on several related concepts such as chemical equilibrium and solution chemistry (Bilgin & Geban, 2006;Calik, 2005;Demircioğlu et al, 2005;Piquette & Heikkinen, 2005;Voska & Heikkinen, 2000).…”
