User Interface Migration between Mobile Devices and Digital TV

Abstract: Abstract. In this paper we present a demonstration of the Migrantes environment for supporting user interface migration through different devices, including mobile ones and digital TV. The goal of the system is to furnish user interfaces that are able to migrate across different devices, in such a way as to support task continuity for the mobile user. This is obtained through a number of transformations that exploit logical descriptions of the user interfaces to be handled. The migration environment supports t… Show more

“…The application domain can be expanded if they have underlying support to choose the optimal conguration for such unknown environments. The optimal conguration is also relevant in dynamic applications that interact with users [8] since the success of these applications depends on the user's experience. Previous research has shown that model-based policy generation approaches allow for robust decisions; video stream application stream decoding [9], placement policy of processing tasks in virtual environments [10] and QoS management policies [11].…”

“…For continuous Web browsing, Alapetite et al [10] migrate Web sessions across mobile devices using 2D-barcodes captured by cameras. A dedicated State Mapper is also developed in [11] for state recovery during UI migration between mobile phones and digital TVs. Inspired by these approaches, our framework realizes complete continuous migration tailored to Web widgets.…”

“…The work in this paper is based on service migration, where service is defined as mobile interactive applications [1] [4]. The goal of service migration is to improve the user experience by a seamless migration.…”

“…Traditional migration is conducted via high-bandwidth network links (Ethernet, WLAN or GPRS/UMTS) and a central server to coordinate the migration sequence [1]. However, using ad-hoc communication between devices and in particular the RFID based Near Field communication (NFC) can be advantageous for multiple reasons: (1) The physical closeness required to create an NFC link can be interpreted as migration trigger; (2) binding the migration to the physical closeness can increase the user-trust in the migration procedure, as hijacking of sessions by remote devices can be prevented; (3) fast connection setup times and low interference probability due to its short range can be advantageous; (4) low power consumption can make it the technology of choice in migration scenarios triggered by low battery of the source device.…”
