“…Recently, a PoC/chair-side device, comparable to PCR-detection, for Porphyromonas gingivalis related to chronic periodontitis detection has been developed [ 28 ]. A chair-side assay for GCF calprotectin has been described [ 29 ]. Calprotectin does not degrade anything [ 29 ].…”

“…S100A9 involved in the regulation of inflammatory processes and immune response [ 29 ]. Calprotectin, S100A8/A9, is the marker for gingivitis and periodontitis [ 30 , 31 ]. Since the main extracellular form of S100A8 and S100A9 is as a heterodimer (S100A8/A9 or calprotectin), the role of calprotectin should have been considered.…”

“…Calprotectin is a cytosolic protein released from neutrophils in the early stages of inflammation 15 . It has been found that GCF calprotectin levels were higher in chronic periodontitis patients compared with healthy ones 17‒19 and were significantly reduced after treatment 20‒22 due to decreased inflammatory cell infiltration 15,44 . On the other hand, calprotectin has antimicrobial activity by competing for zinc, which is needed for the growth of bacteria 14 .…”

“…In chronic inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn disease, and cystic fibrosis, calprotectin levels in plasma and synovial fluid are elevated 16 . It has been shown that patients with chronic periodontitis had elevated GCF calprotectin levels 17‒19 and those levels were significantly decreased after treatment 20‒22 . Osteocalcin is a calcium‐binding protein of bone that is synthesized by osteoblasts.…”
