Use of the Vitroptik® in horses: Endoscopy of the vitreous cavity and adjacent structures

EinleitungDie bei Pferden nicht selten vorkommenden erheblichen Trü-bungen der physiologischerweise transparenten Augenmedien infolge von schweren Keratitiden, fremdem Inhalt in der vorderen Augenkammer und fortgeschrittenen Linsen-und Glaskörpertrübungen können die ophthalmoskopische Untersuchung des hinteren Augensegmentes behindern oder verwehren (Abb. 1). Endoscopy of the vitreous cavity of horses is a relative new technique which can be used for diagnosis and therapy in eyes with opacities of the cornea, the aqueous fluid, the lens and the vitreous. When a sure diagnosis can not be given by other means, endoscopy of the vitreous cavity may be helpful in some cases. Posterior lens capsule, zonules, pars plicata and pars plana of the ciliary body, vitreous cavity and fundus can be visualized. Technique and therapeutic possibilities of endoscopy of the vitreous cavity are described and dicussed.
