Ö ÖZ ZE ET T A Am ma aç ç: : Sağlık Çalışanları, tıp fakültesi ve sağlık yüksek okulu (SYO) öğrencilerinin kan ve vücut sıvılarıyla bulaşan enfeksiyonlar, enfeksiyon kontrol önlemleri hakkındaki bilgi düzeyleri, temas sıklıkları, serolojik durumları ve hepatit B aşılanma durumlarının değerlendirilmesi. G Ge er re eç ç v ve e Y Yö ön nt te em ml le er r: : Araştırma kesitseldir. Zonguldak Karaelmas Üniversitesi Uygulama ve Araştırma Hastanesi'nde yapıldı. Veriler anket yöntemi ile toplandı. Çalışmaya 445 kişi katıldı (131 tıp fakültesi öğrencisi, 34 SYO öğrencisi, 280 sağlık çalışanı). B Bu ul lg gu ul la ar r: : Yaş ortalaması 25.5 ± 5.4'tü. Bilgi düzeyi puan ortalamalarının yaş ve eğitim düzeyi ile arttığı saptandı (p=0.001). En yüksek bilgi düzeyi puan ortalamaları doktorlarındı. Kliniğe geçen tıp fakültesi öğrencilerinin toplam bilgi düzeyi puan ortalaması, SYO öğrencilerinden (p= 0.001), SYO öğrencilerininki de preklinik tıp fakültesi öğrencilerininkinden (p= 0.001) yüksekti. Kanla bulaşan enfeksiyonlar ve korunma yöntemleri hakkında hizmet içi eğitim alan grubun bilgi düzeyi, puan ortalamaları almayan gruptan yüksekti (p= 0.001). Kan ve vücut sıvılarıyla temas sıklığı %54'tü. Temaslıların bilgi düzeyi puan ortalamaları, teması olmayanlardan yüksekti (p= 0.001). Temas sıklığı, konu hakkında eğitim almak isteyenlerde istemeyenlere göre daha yüksekti (Ki kare: 14.92 p= 0.0001). En sık temas tipi, ele iğne batmasıydı. Temas sonrası enfeksiyon hastalıkları polikliniğine başvuru oranı %27.3, ortalama takip süresi 2.9 ± 2.3 aydı. En yüksek temas acil serviste, (%76.3), en düşük temas ise diyaliz ünitesindeydi (%37.1). Hepatit B aşılanma oranı %71.9'du. En sık aşılanmama nedeni fırsat bulamamaktı. Öğrenciler dışındaki sağlık çalışanlarında anti HCV pozitifliği %1.2, inaktif HBsAg taşıyıcılığı %1,5 oranında saptandı. Two women who won't see me graduate, but never doubted that I would.Also to my father, K. Gordon Cuming who taught me at an early age that all things were possible with the right amount of persistence and dedication. Using an ex post facto, non-experimental design, the memberships of five professional associations whose members comprise surgical teams were invited to complete a mixed methods survey study. The primary research question for the study was: What differences (perceptual and demographic) exist between surgical team vii members that influence their choices of wearing or not wearing PPE during operative/invasive procedures? Four principal differences were found between surgical team members.Functional (i.e., profession or role based) differences exist between the groups. Age and experience (i.e., time in profession) differences exist among members of the groups.Finally, being a nurse anesthetist influences the use of risk assessment to determine the level of PPE to use.Four common themes emerged across all groups informing the two study purposes. Those themes were: availability, education, leadership, and performance.Subsidiary research questions examined the influence of previous accidental exposure to blood or body fluids, federal regulations, hospital policy and procedure, leaders' attitudes, and patients' needs on the use of PPE. Each of these was found to strongly influence surgical team members and their use of PPE during operative/invasive procedures.

Since its identification in 1985, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) has challenged several aspects of health care delivery. Because HIV is a blood-borne infectious disease, from the early days of the epidemic, concern was raised about risks of occupational exposures and infections among health care workers. Despite the development of highly active antiretroviral therapy, which has effectively modulated HIV into a chronic disease in many settings, risks of occupational infection with 3 blood-borne pathogens remain in the health care workplace. Using the case of a house officer who has a needlestick during a resuscitation attempt, prevention of needlesticks including universal precautions and postexposure management of occupational HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C exposures is discussed.
