Use of inter simple sequence repeats and protein markers in assessing genetic diversity and relationships among four rabbit genotypes

Abstract: The importance of DNA and protein applications as powerful tools in breeding programmes is revealed. The inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR) technique was used to characterise and determine phylogenetic relationships among 4 genotypes of rabbit, namely Alexandria (Alex), V line (V), New Zealand White (NZW) and California (Cal). Six out of 7 ISSR primers exhibited sufficient variability and were used to characterise the genetic diversity and relationships among studied genotypes. A total of 141 DNA bands were … Show more

“…Rabbits are good potential animal protein source for human (El-Sabrout & Aggag, 2015;Soliman and El-Sabrout, 2020). A rabbit doe (female) can be expected to produce more than 50 weaned young per year, representing a total of 120 kg rabbit meat at market age.…”

“…Rabbit has its importance as supplier of meat and it has become one of the necessary sources of food in some country. Molecular techniques in rabbit’s field become very important tools for the detection of markers linked to economical traits [ 1 ]. In breeding programs, data utility from associate genes has potential to basically improve the accuracy of selection [ 2 ].…”
