The synthesis of nanoparticles by green chemistry offers a method that respects the environment. The experimental conditions and the existing interactions between the reducing agents in Cupressus goveniana extract and the Au +3 ions have a directly influence in the size, morphology and stability, as well as the physicochemical properties of the particles. Is possible consider he formation of AuNPs in the change of color of the extract when adding the precursor agent and by UV-Visible spectroscopy, indicating a plasmon of absorbance characteristic of this metal. The extract was characterized by FTIR, and to evaluate the reductive capacity of Cupressus goveniana extract, a cyclic voltammetry was carried out, for which the reducing capacity of the Au +3 ions is attributed to obtain the AuNPs.

Gymnosperms, also termed as Acrogymnospermae, are an assemblage of seedbearing vascular plants that contain "naked" seeds. Although the early evolutionary history of seed plants is a bit tricky and confusing due to inconclusive fossil evidences, recent molecular phylogenetic studies place extant gymnosperms in a monophyletic group allied to the Magnoliophyta. All major groups of gymnosperms have found usage in the nanofabrication nanoparticles with majority of the studies carried out in the last 10 years. Among the gymnosperms, conifers have been the popular choice in the eco-friendly synthesis of nanoparticles primarily due to the structural and chemical diversity of natural compounds present in different members of this group. Ginkgo, Cycas, and Ephedra have also yielded nanoparticles, while Gnetum has also been utilized to some extent.

The use of metallic nanoparticles in engineering and biomedicine disciplines has gained considerable attention. Scientists are exploring new synthesis protocols of these substances considering their small size and lucrative antimicrobial potential. Among the most economical techniques of synthesis of metallic nanoparticles via chemical routes, which includes the use of chemicals as metal reducing agents, is considered to generate nanoparticles possessing toxicity and biological risk. This limitation of chemically synthesized nanoparticles has engendered the exploration for the ecofriendly synthesis process. Biological or green synthesis approaches have emerged as an effective solution to address the limitations of conventionally synthesized nanoparticles. Nanoparticles synthesized via biological entities obtained from plant extracts exhibit superior effect in comparison to chemical methods. Recently, conifer extracts have been found to be effective in synthesizing metallic nanoparticles through a highly regulated process. The current review highlights the importance of conifers and its extracts in synthesis of metallic nanoparticles. It also discusses the different applications of the conifer extract mediated metallic nanoparticles.
