Obesity and overweight are considered a health threat globally. Saudi Arabia is a country that has a high percentage of people suffering from obesity. These people can be helped to lose weight through the usage of mobile apps as these apps can collect users' personal information. These collected data is used to provide precise and personalized weight loss advices. However, weight loss apps must be user friendly, provide data security and user privacy protection. In this paper, we analyze the usability, security, and privacy of a weight loss app. Our main aim to clarify the data privacy and security procedure and test the usability level of the new Arabic weight loss app 'Akser Waznk' that is developed considering the social and cultural norms of Saudi users.

Mobile apps are designed and specifically developed for a specific purpose. They are widely used nowadays as they benefit many users of different age groups, both the old and young. Although various apps caters to the different needs of the senior citizen users are available, there is a lack in understanding of how usability features of these apps influence the acceptance among the senior citizens. Though many of the existing studies proposed several features that may be beneficial to older users, it is unclear how these features promote the acceptance of mobile apps for older users in countries like Malaysia. Aiming to address this inadequacy, the current study investigate the needs, expectations, and usability features of several mobile apps that are relevant for the Malaysian senior citizen people, aged 65 years and above. The usability evaluation of the developed prototype was performed by using the System Usability Scale (SUS). Based on results of the evaluation, it was concluded that the inclusion of an elder-friendly usability feature can increase the acceptance of mobile apps among the senior citizens.

This study analyses different techniques used for evaluation of various usability dimensions of software applications (apps) being used on the smartphones. The scope of this study is to evaluate various aspects of the usability techniques employed in the domain of smartphone apps. Usability assessment methodologies are evaluated for different types of applications running on different operating systems like Android, Blackberry and iOS, etc. Usability evaluation techniques and methodologies with respect to usability heuristics like field experiments, laboratory experiments models and usability standards are discussed in detail. The issues for evaluation of usability of smartphone apps are identified by considering limitations and areas of improvement outlined in the contemporary literature. A conceptual framework for usability evaluation of smartphone apps is also designed which would be validated through experimentation in the thesis work. This study is particularly useful to comprehend usability issues and their likely remedies to produce high quality smartphone apps.
