Urban road waterlogging risk assessment based on the source–pathway–receptor concept in Shenzhen, China

Abstract: Urban roads are especially vulnerable to waterlogging during rainfall events.Assessments of urban road waterlogging risk are critical for disaster prevention and mitigation. This paper presents a rapid and practical approach for assessing the risk of urban road waterlogging based on a source-pathway-receptor concept and a digital elevation model (DEM). Waterlogging sources are identified by neighborhood analysis, overland flow pathways are extracted using a DEM, and the properties of cross-nodes between pathwa… Show more

“…After doing extensive research on the flooding problem, researchers both at home and abroad have developed a systematic system of flooding risk assessment methodologies (Zheng et al 2022;Sun et al 2022). This paper's novelty is to combine the CATREG with the AHP technique, which enhances the accuracy of the flood risk assessment model while weakening the AHP method's shortcomings in giving weights that are more subjective.…”

“…Existing risk assessment methods include RPN (Risk Priority Number) for sorting internal system component failures and using fault trees [ 14 ], Bayesian networks [ 15 ], and Markov chains [ 16 ], which are used to study interrelationships among risks. Similarly, SPRC [ 17 ], FMEA [ 18 ], and influence diagrams [ 19 ] are adept at assessing the impact of singular events like floods or fires. These techniques provide avenues for quantitatively assessing continuous risks posed by sensor failures in information gathering, decision-making, and execution.…”

“…In freshwater systems, lakes are considered receptors or sinks in which material and pollutants tend to accumulate and pathways are processes of transport, dilution, and transformation of pollutants in their catchments. The SPR model has been applied as a simple conceptual model for illustrating systems and processes leading to a specific outcome in several environmental risk assessments [10][11][12], such as flood risks and erosion [13][14][15].…”
