Updating a model of pulp and paper wastewater treatment in a partial-mix aerated stabilization basin system

Abstract: A relatively simple set of calculations was presented in 1994 to evaluate the effectiveness of each ASB cell as reactor, clarifier, and digester. The steady-state model, which incorporated estimates of solids settling and benthal feedback of BOD5 and nutrients, has been a reasonable diagnostic tool for municipal and industrial applications. Results have aided in understanding normal system function, the nature of chronic inefficiencies of individual systems, and appropriate modifications to meet changes in dis… Show more

“…They showed the dependency of BOD removal efficiency on the rate of nutrients addition. Bryant (2010) simulated the treatment process of pulp-and-paper wastewater in ASB and showed that although the treatment system could remove up to 67% COD from the wastewater, certain limitations such as nitrogen supply affected the removal efficiency of contaminants. Schnell et al (2000) compared three different laboratory-scale systems, namely AS, facultative stabilization basin (FSB) and ASB, in treating high rate and low rate Kraft mill wastewaters.…”

“…Найбільш доступним і ефективним як з точки зору високої ефективності процесу очищення, малих витрат на будівництво та експлуатацію, так і впливу на навколишнє середовище і природні водні об'єкти є біологічний метод [8][9][10][11], а саме, аеробний [12,13] та анаеробний [14,15] процеси.…”

“…According to a study by (Bryant, 2010), the substrate removal plot for ammonia removal has R 2 = 0.97, with bio-kinetic coefficients like Kv and Umsr for ammonia being 0.477 and 1.27 g/L/d, respectively. The Kv was determined as 0.78, 32.54, 93.60, and 34.14, mg/L/d, and the maximum utilization rate (Umsr) was 0.36, 32.3, 45.5, and 33.8 mg/SS/d for attached growth, An-HMBR, suspended growth, and An-HBR system respectively (Burman and Sinha, 2020).…”
