“…The presence of the I1,016 mutation in Colombia provides the first evidence of another mechanism of resistance to pyrethroids, in addition to the enzymatic alteration previously described in different populations of other regions of Colombia [5,15,29]. We found relatively low I1,016 homozygote frequencies as compared to other pyrethroid resistant populations from other countries [28,[39][40][41][42]. Saavedra-Rodriguez et al [28], observed that 57.4% of I1,106/ V1016 heterozygotes knocked down at 1 h of exposure to permethrin eventually recovered at 24 h. Thus the rate of recovery following knockdown is inherited as an additive genetic trait with heterozygotes exhibiting an intermediate phenotype which may allow populations to more quickly respond to selection pressure.…”

“…At present, no other report of this point mutation in another Southeast Asian country has been published. The V1016I and I1011 (M or V) mutations seem to be widely distributed with high frequency in Latin American countries [7], [11], [18][21]. It is interesting to speculate why the V1016G point mutation occurs with high frequency in Myanmar and Thailand.…”

“…High frequencies of this resistance allele were subsequently found in collections of Ae. aegypti from 78 sites in Mexico with some of the highest frequencies detected in collections from Veracruz state (Ponce et al 2009, Siller et al 2011). …”
