Upconversion fluorescence spectroscopy of Er3+/Yb3+-doped heavy metal Bi2O3–Na2O–Nb2O5–GeO2 glass

Abstract: Upconversion fluorescence emission of Er3+/Yb3+-doped Bi2O3–Na2O–Nb2O5–GeO2 heavy metal glass samples excited at 1.06 μm is experimentally investigated. The results reveal the existence of intense emission bands centered around 520, 545, and 655 nm. The germano-niobate based host glass presents high transparency in the region of 400–2700 nm, the capability of incorporating high dopant concentrations, high melting temperature, and large resistance to atmospheric moisture. The observed intensity of the green flu… Show more

“…[12][13][14][15][16] This effect was recently exploited in different codoped systems such as Yb 3ϩ /Er 3ϩ , 13 Yb 3ϩ / Pr 3ϩ , 14 Yb 3ϩ /Tb 3ϩ , 15 and Yb 3ϩ /Tm 3ϩ . 16 In the early stages of research on new UC processes resonant excitation schemes was mainly considered; however, nonresonant absorption can be advantageous in many ways.…”

“…Hence this wavelength has been chosen as attractive pump wavelength as has been done earlier in other host matrices previously. [18][19][20][21] The dependence of the up-conversion intensity of the composite film with 2 wt.% erbium oxalate content upon baking temperature was examined and the results are depicted in Fig. 7.…”

“…In recent years, the near infrared (NIR) to visible (VIS) and ultraviolet (UV) upconversion luminescence by rare earth (RE) ions doped materials has been investigated extensively, due to the possibility of all-solid-state upconversion lasers operating in VIS and UV spectral domains and the potential applications in areas such as color display, optical data storage, optoelectronics, medical diagnostics, sensor and undersea optical communication [1][2][3][4][5][6]. Among the RE iondoped materials that have demonstrated upconversion phenomena, Er 3+ ion-doped ones have shown efficient NIR to VIS and violet upconversion fluorescence [7][8][9][10].…”
