Unsuccessful Transitions: Understanding Dropout from the Athletes’ Perspective

Abstract: In the dynamic landscape of digital information, the rise of misinformation and fake news presents a pressing challenge. This paper takes a completely new approach to verifying news, inspired by how quantum actors can reach agreement even when they are spatially spread out. We propose a radically new, to the best of our knowledge, algorithm that uses quantum "entanglement" (think of it as a special connection) to help news aggregators sniff out bad actors, whether they be other news sources or even fact-checke… Show more

“…In such manner, players would not feel disappointed or resentful, or experience a sense of futility with their sports experiences (i.e., not accomplishing their goals), but rather feel proud and gratified with their accomplishments, view failures as opportunities for growth, and continue with their sports participation. Furthermore, as coaches are also found to cause dropout among players in competitive and elite sports (Andronikos et al, 2019 ; Thomas et al, 2021 ), the leadership role of the coach in providing support and motivation to the overall wellbeing of players is even more vital in order to sustain or further enhance players' commitment and satisfaction level.…”

“…These athletes attributed their drop out to not having the funds to train and compete (after losing multiple support sources), major injury, and the structure of professional training programmes limiting their ability to find suitable work. Lack of support to manage a dual career has previously been discussed as a factor that can lead to drop out from sport during the transition from the junior-to-senior level (Andronikos, Westbury, & Martindale, 2019). However, dropping out from elite level sport during the transition out of university because of limited opportunities to manage professional sport programmes with other areas of life (e.g., work) has not been discussed.…”

“…Therefore, given the aims of arguably all TDEs (should be) is to successfully develop athletes (preparing them for both sport and life) and given the strong support for the crucial role of psychological skills in this process, it would make sense for environments to explicitly develop and facilitate the growth of psychological skills as part of the TD experience (Andronikos et al, 2019;Henriksen & Stambulova, 2017;Li et al, 2015;Martindale et al, 2007). However, understanding which features of the TD experience can predict psychological skills (if any) would be useful in helping provide guidance to coaches and those in charge of operationalizing TDEs.…”
