Unlocking All-Solid Ion Selective Electrodes: Prospects in Crop Detection

Abstract: This paper reviews the development of all-solid-state ion-selective electrodes (ASSISEs) for agricultural crop detection. Both nutrient ions and heavy metal ions inside and outside the plant have a significant influence on crop growth. This review begins with the detection principle of ASSISEs. The second section introduces the key characteristics of ASSISE and demonstrates its feasibility in crop detection based on previous research. The third section considers the development of ASSISEs in the detection of c… Show more

“…Accordingly, the differential changes in the concentration of elements in the standard nutrient solution formula need to be considered. The measured samples were adjusted based on five nutrient solution formulas, and the specific original formulas are shown in table 1 [1]. About 50 sets of simulated nutrient solution samples were absorbed, and 34 sets of formula ion concentration adjustment samples (the adjusted formula is shown in table S1).…”

“…Different crops have different absorption of ions in nutrient solution, and the concentration will increase or decrease in nutrient solution. The technique of soilless culture requires reasonable and accurate control of ion concentrations in nutrient solution, and ion-selective electrodes are a very good choice [1]. At present, there are related researches and products based on the ion-selective electrode to detect nutrient solution components.…”

“…However, research is rapidly expanding to other areas, including monitoring heavy metal contamination in people exposed to high-risk environments, monitoring liver and bone status, monitoring pharmacotherapy in people with bipolar disorder, and skeletal and dental studies. Quantification of ions is also important in agriculture, for monitoring water and food quality, and for studying the effect of detergent production on water [7].…”
