This study aims to review and synthesize the rapidly evolving literature on technology transfer from universities, and the concepts and models included in it, from a knowledge-flow approach to find the factors contributing to its performance. This article provides a perspective on recent work, focusing on empirical studies on technology transfer in universities conducted in the last 32 years from a knowledge-based vision. The study was carried out from a systematic literature review in the Scopus, Web of Science, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink databases on 135 articles selected and evaluated by peers from critical surveillance factors such as technology transfer, knowledge flow, and university–industry relationship, among others. It was possible to identify 75 factors that, from a knowledge-based vision and specifically from a knowledge-flow approach, permit and contribute to the performance of technology transfer generated from research processes in universities. We classified studies into four categories according to their approaches, each with their dimensions and factors: management of knowledge, resources and capabilities, management of technological transfer, and the university–industry relationship. This classification permitted not only identification but also the systematization of the different factors and related authors that, from a knowledge-flow approach, contribute to the performance of technological transfers in universities, reflecting their efficiency and effectiveness. In this respect, absorption capacity and open innovation are topics which are worthy of exploration.

RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of this paper is to answer the research question: Which issues play crucial roles in universities’ responsible research and the innovation transfer process? The tool used to achieve the aim of the study was analysis of the specific role of the concept of responsible research and innovation transfer from universities to the economy. THE RESEARCH PROBLEMS AND METHODS: The research results can generate innovations that can be transferred to the economy. Considering all stakeholders of innovations transferred from universities to the economy, the criteria of evaluating innovations in terms of responsibility should be studied. The research method is based on literature analysis. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: The article begins with a literature review in the area of research and responsible innovation. Then, an attempt is made to synthetically analyze the dimensions of responsible innovation in order to formulate a basis for further inference. In the next part of the study, we used six dimensions of responsibility to explore the process of innovation transfer from universities to the economy. RESEARCH RESULTS: The article shows that on the basis of the assumptions of the concept of responsible research and technology transfer, it is possible to create a framework that is the basis for evaluating the activity of a university in relation to the economic environment. Moreover, the Quadruple Helix framework of innovation is the most relevant tool to analyze actors and their interactions in an innovation ecosystem. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: Responsible innovation dimensions such as inclusion, anticipation, responsiveness, reflexivity, sustainability, care could be considered as a basis for evaluating universities’ technology transfer process.

Background: Regarding the high demands of auto parts manufacturers to utilize new technologies to develop and grow competitiveness and produce products in the market, there is an urgent need for successful technology transfer to the company. In this regard, a suitable model for appropriate transfer of technology and technical knowledge is required to succeed and be effective in order to facilitate the maximum adaptation between the demand and operational dimensions in this industry. Objective: In this study, a model was proposed to evaluate the success of technology and technical knowledge transfer in auto parts manufacturers. Method: To this end, the factors affecting the success of technology transfer were first collected according to previous studies, and then an exploratory factor analysis questionnaire was developed to classify and screen these factors in the form of a conceptual model. Results: In the study, 361 personnel and experts from auto parts manufacturers participated, and Cronbach's alpha coefficient >0.7 was set to measure the reliability of the questionnaires. Finally, exploratory factor analysis method was used to develop the model. Afterward, according to the proposed model, a confirmatory factor analysis questionnaire was prepared and filled in by the same statistical population, who were working in auto parts manufacturers. After examining the normality of the sample and the reliability of the questionnaire, structural equations were designed in the form of confirmation structures for the model. Exploratory factor analysis was also used to confirm and test the model. Conclusion: The findings indicated that organizational index, adaptability, and technology utilization and absorption had the greatest impacts on the success of technology transfer, respectively.
