In this study, the study area was chosen as Amasya University Yeşilırmak Campus, located within the borders of Amasya province central county. The aim of the study was to investigate the components comprising the spatial character (buildings, roads and paths, parking areas, equipment elements, sports areas, social areas) and landscape character (topography, presence of plants) in terms of function, current status, environmental and aesthetic features. In line with this aim, the components comprising the spatial and landscape character of the campus were identified with field observations and the functions of the components were defined. An orthophoto for the campus was created using an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and maps for the current spatial character, landscape character, social areas and parking areas were obtained. At the conclusion of the study, it is observed that, despite a significant portion of the campus surface being covered by wooded areas, the structures within the campus, such as buildings, parking areas, and vehicular and pedestrian pathways with hard surface materials, are more extensively utilized by the campus users, while the wooded areas remain largely unused. Findings revealed the current status of the campus, and recommendations were made to create a campus with distinctive identity that will be more livable and chosen more frequently by students.

Research problem/aim: This study aimed to reveal the physical characteristics of the Sivas Cumhuriyet University Campus. University campuses are equipped with highly diversified physical qualities in terms of the design and planning stages. The quality and property of the physical space are the values that enrich and develop the livable, accessible, and perceptible features of the campus space. In this study, the basic physical components that make up a university campus were identified in order to analyze their qualities. Method: The method was based on fieldwork documentation tools such as observation, on-site examination, photography, and drawing. Accordingly, the Sivas Cumhuriyet University campus was evaluated in terms of its basic physical characteristics such as borders, building usage patterns, morphology, occupancy-vacancy, common areas, and green areas. Findings: It was determined that the campus space has a scattered and disjointed group of relationships, and individual and independent spatial arrangements present a fragmented appearance throughout the built environment. Accordingly, it was determined that the common and green areas and the occupancy-vacancy relations were disturbed, and a morphologically unstable and scattered physical space presentation emerged. Conclusions: Ultimately, this study, which analyzed the current physical environment of the campus, proposed the preparation of an urgent design guide for the campus in order to transform the built environmental components that have been constructed in a disconnected, dispersed, fragmented and unrelated manner into holistic, coherent and continuous spatial organizations.

Universities in our country are not oriented towards the interests, talents and desires of the students who are admitted, they are placed according to the preferences they make in the direction of the points they get from the examination. Sometimes students find themselves in an environment where they do not know themselves, do not come willingly. However, the use of space in the environment of young people is important in terms of personality development and is different from the society in general. The reason for this is the difference in the environmental preferences of youth. These preferences and differences are especially reflected in campus designs where the majority of their time is spent. For this reason, open spaces of the Karadeniz Technical University Kanuni campus were considered in the study. It has been researched how youth use campus open spaces, what spatial factors and components they find possible. In other words, it is aimed to determine the possibilities of campus open spaces so that they can perform activities. For this purpose, observations were made on open spaces in the campus. Camera records were analyzed and open spaces were analyzed in terms of spatial characteristics and possibilities schematized.
