Giving birth is one of the most impressive experiences in life. However, many pregnant women suffer from fear of childbirth (FOC) and experience labour in very different ways, depending on their personality, previous life experiences, pregnancy, and birth circumstances. The aim of this study was to analyse how fear of childbirth affects the childbirth experience and to assess the related consequences. For this, a descriptive cross-sectional study was carried out in a sample of 414 women between 1 July 2021 and 30 June 2022. The Birth Anticipation Scale (BAS) was used to measure fear of childbirth and the Childbirth Experience Questionnaire (CEQ-E) was applied to measure satisfaction with the childbirth experience. Fear of childbirth negatively and significantly predicted the childbirth experience. In addition, women who were more fearful of childbirth were found to have worse obstetric outcomes and a higher likelihood of having a caesarean delivery (p = 0.008 C. I 95%). Fear behaved as a risk factor for the birth experience, so the greater the fear, the higher the risk of having a worse birth experience (OR 1.1). Encouraging active listening and support strategies may increase pregnant women’s confidence, thus decreasing their fear of the process and improving their childbirth experience.

(1) Background: Epidural analgesia (EA), at the present time, is one of the most effective methods to reduce labor pain. In recent years its use has increased, being used between 20–70% of all deliveries; (2) Methods: Historical cohort on a total of 2947 deliveries during the years 2012–2016 at the “Mancha-Centro Hospital” of Alcázar de San Juan. The main outcome variables were four neonatal morbidity (NM) criteria: umbilical artery pH of <7.10, Apgar score at 5 min < 7, need for advanced resuscitation and composite morbidity. We used the multivariate analysis to control confounding bias. (3) Results: No statistical relationship between EA and the second stage of labor duration with none of the four criteria of NM used (p > 0.005). However, the type of delivery was associated with three criteria (pH, resuscitation, and composite morbidity). The instrumental delivery presented an OR of pH < 7.10 of 2.68 95% CI [1.15, 6.27], an OR of advanced resuscitation of 2.44 95% CI [1.17, 5.08] and OR of composite morbidity of 2.86 95% CI [1.59, 5.12]; (4) Conclusions: The EA and the second stage of labor duration are not related to the NM. While the instrumental delivery doubles the risk of NM compared to the normal vaginal delivery.

Introducción: La atención de enfermería en áreas de hospitalización, implica la utilización de servicios racionales, lógicos y sistemáticos; por lo tanto, estos deben de estar enmarcados en normas correctas para la prevención de complicaciones de accesos venosos periféricos, los mismos que son de vital importancia en el cuidado de la salud de las personas. Objetivo: Determinar el impacto de la intervención educativa sobre prevención de complicaciones de accesos venosos periféricos en las enfermeras del hospital Básico Yantzaza. Métodos: Estudio descriptivo, cuasi experimental de tipo antes–después, durante un periodo de seis meses, se implementó un plan de intervención educativa para la inserción y mantención de los catéteres venosos periféricos. Se efectuó un muestreo aleatorio simple. La muestra fue constituida por 46 enfermeras del Hospital Básico Yantzaza de acuerdo a la formula Sierra Bravo de 1988, el error (5%) que cometemos de estimación del tamaño de la muestra, partiendo de un nivel de confianza del 95%. Resultados: la intervención educativa para la prevención de complicaciones de accesos venosos periféricos tuvo un impacto significativo, mediante la aplicación de un pre test y post test, el personal de enfermería se encontró que la efectividad entre las mediciones efectuadas antes (Md = 1) y después (Md = 2) de implementar el programa de mejoramiento (z = -5,608b, p > 0.05 se encontró que fue efectiva.
